2009 Film Guide : The Class, by Laurent Cantet
The Film Guide has been released every year since 2003 by the Cultural Service of the French Embassy and the Irish Film Institute. It is also supported by the Arts Council. The Guide is a unique class resource for French teachers in Ireland.
The Class, winner of the Palme d’Or at the 2008 Cannes Festival, was chosen for this 2009 issue.
The film is based on the story of François (performed by François Begaudeau, who also wrote the book which inspired the film), a young and dynamic French teacher in a troublemaking high school class. Everyday, disputes and clashes erupt between the teacher and his students. But François still tries to instill a good atmosphere while remaining in charge.
This 2009 Film Guide will be distributed, along with the DVD, to French teachers in Ireland, providing them with an audio-visual tool for the class. It will also be available for students (along with previous issues) at the Alliance Française Library in Dublin (1 Kildare Street, Dublin 2, 1st floor).
The online version is available on the IFI website.
