2011 - Book launch "Marie-Curie et ses filles – Lettres"
This is a unique occasion to meet Marie Curie’s grand-daughter Hélène Langevin-Joliot. She will reflect on Marie Curie’s life : her famous scientific works (Marie Curie is still the only female recipient of two Nobel Prize in science and the first woman to be elected to the Academy of Sciences), her involvement as a nurse in the 1st World War, her determination to improve gender equality and her family life. It will also be an opportunity to discover Marie Curie as a mother. In a book called « Marie-Curie et ses filles – Lettres » Hélène Langevin-Joliot collected more than two hundred letters. Those letters were exchanged between Marie Curie and her two daughters, Irène and Eve - who were to become famous in their own right - from 1906 (when her husband Pierre Curie died accidentally) to 1934. The letters evoke daily life, holidays, travel stories or matters about her work at the laboratory, encounters with famous scientists and her renowned scientific research.
The talk will be followed by a book signing.
