2011 - Launch of the Franco-Irish Cybercrime Centre of Excellence
On 31st May 2011, UCD "Centre for Cybercrime Investigation" will host the official launching ceremony of the "2CENTRE" project. H.E. Mrs Emmanuelle d’Achon, French Ambassador to Ireland and representatives from the European Commission, "Europol", "An Garda Síochána" will attend the Dublin based launch.
At the same time a parallel event taking place at Microsoft headquarters in Paris will be organized with the French component of the project which involves French universities, industry partners and police forces in France as well.
Largely funded by the European Commission, this €4millions "2CENTRE" project addresses the development of a network of cybercrime centres throughout Europe. Education and research into current and emerging cyber threats are the core of the project, in order to develop solutions that will assist European police forces in their fight against these borderless crimes.
Project partners Microsoft, eBay and Thales will be providing special technical expertise, French universities Université de Technologie de Troyes and Université de Montpellier 1 will be working with the "Gendarmerie" and "Police Nationale" on French initiatives.
