MT180 - 2021 Final results [fr]
On September 3, 2021, 21 candidates came together virtually to present their research to a passionate audience as part of the “My thesis in 180 seconds” competition (MT180).
Open to doctoral students, MT180 gives competitors the opportunity to present their research topic in layman’s terms to a lay and diverse audience. Each participant has three minutes to make a clear, concise and convincing presentation of their research project.
For the Irish national final, the 21 candidates from all over Ireland tackled a wide variety of topics such as disease diagnosis, language anxiety, astrophysics, political science, gender studies , materials science, etc.
The jury :
The jury was made up of personalities from the academic, economic and diplomatic world:
• Lewis Purser, jury chairman, director of academic affairs, teaching and learning at the Irish Universities Association (IUA)
• Derval Conroy, President of the association des études françaises et francophones d’Irlande (Adeffi)
• Marianne Barkan-Cowdy, first counsellor, French Embassy in Ireland
• Jamie Sugrue, 2020 Laureate
• Caroline Viguier, programs and partnership manager, Digital Hub, French Tech
The winners :
Once again this year, the candidates showed great talent and originality and five awards were presented. In order to reward the courage of doctoral students who did not present their thesis in their mother tongue, the jury decided to award a fifth prize, the prix de la Francophonie.
• Sally Finn-Kelcey wins the first Jury Prize and will represent Ireland in the MT180 international competition of the Agence Universitaire de la Francophonie (AUF) on September 30, 2021.
• Axelle China wins the second prize
• Sarah Clancy wins the third prize
• Siobhan Hamon wins the audience prize
• Ruben Arellano wins prix de la francophonie
