[6-7 October] A conference on Irish Catholicism
A two-day conference to analyse the reasons why the Catholica Church in Ireland is undergoing a crisis at the moment. What does future hold for this institution?
On the 6-7 October, the National Centre for Franco-Irish Studies is hosting a multidisciplinary conference in IT Tallaght on the topic, Irish Catholicism on Trial.
The title is not meant to be in any way condemnatory, as the 15 speakers, three of whom are travelling from France, attempt to analyse the reasons why the Catholic Church in Ireland is undergoing a crisis at the moment and to suggest what the future might hold for an institution that has played a major role in forging Irish identity.
Keynote speakers include Dr Gladys Ganiel (Queen’s University, Belfast), Professor Dermot Keogh (UCC) and Professor Catherine Maignant (Université de Lille 3).
