Award-wining French translator Bruno Gaurier at the Hopkins International Literary Festival

Award-wining French translator Bruno Gaurier is guest of honour at the Hopkins International Literary Festival where his latest translation of Hopkins’s works will be launched in partnership with the French Embassy in Ireland.

Bruno Gaurier, born in Nantes in 1942, is an economist, philosopher, writer, poet and translator, receiving the Nelly Sachs Prize for Literary Translation in France and in Ireland, the O’Connor Award for his translation into French of the poetic works of Gerard Manley Hopkins (Poèmes, le Décaèdre, 2003). He has also produced numerous other translations of works by the 19th century Jesuit poet, including his sermons. A new translation of Hopkins’s poems (Poèmes, Les éditions du Cerf) appeared in 2019.
This year, the Hopkins Society is proud to welcome him back as a true representative of the rich traditions of French literary life and culture.
Bruno Gaurier’s latest translation of Hopkins’s work, Journal, (Les éditions du Cerf 2024) will be launched on Thursday 25th July 2024 at 11am.
