Galway - Exhibition: Science/Fiction: a journey in the heart of life
The French Embassy in Ireland with Inserm, in partnership with the Alliance Française in Galway are delighted to present the exhibition Science/Fiction: a journey in the heart of life realised by Inserm from 15 April to 15 May 2013 - Extended to 19 July 2013.
Mysterious labyrinths, sparkling nuggets, obscure caves, alphabets, ... where do these enigmatic marvels come from?
From living organisms, observed at the microscopic level. And from the work of France’s most visionary writer, Jules Verne. The panels on display are a superimposition of scientific photographs from the Inserm image bank and old engravings illustrating the writings of Jules Verne. These striking images are the creation of Eric Dehausse, an iconographer at Inserm.
To weave a story around this unusual marriage of fact and fiction, the writer Bernard Werber, author of the Ants trilogy, thought of a tale, one that inevitably took the shape of a long distance conversation with Jules Verne, the father of modern science fiction. “For me, he was the initiator. He was the one who made me want to travel far after opening a book, who taught me how words could cross all borders.”
For Science/Fiction: a journey in the heart of life, Bernard Werber decided to experiment: a complete immersion in the images, followed by an hour’s spontaneous, quasi-automatic writing. The seconds flew by, perspectives opened up, the words poured out…
For you too, it’s time to take wings: happy journey to the land of dreams and knowledge!
