IFI French Film Festival 2024 [fr]
The French Embassy in Ireland is delighted to partner once again with the IFI for the 25th edition of the IFI French Film Festival, the largest celebration of French cinema in Ireland. Bringing the very best of new French cinema to Irish audiences, the festival features over 35 films, masterclasses, and special guests from 13-24 November 2024.
This 12-day celebration will present works exploring a wide range of subjects by many renowned and established directors, as well as showcasing exciting new voices in cinema.
Female artists and filmmakers including Sonia Kronlund, Louise Courvoisier, Sophie Filières, Agathe Riedinger and Claire Burger feature strongly in the line-up, alongside retrospective tributes to female auteurs and filmmaking trailblazers Marguerite Duras and Agnès Varda. The programme will also include Jean-Luc Godard’s final two films and A Woman of Paris by Charlie Chaplin. Festival guests will include Stéphane Brizé, Philippe Lesage and Céline Sallette.
Renowned director Stéphane Brizé will present his new romantic drama, Out of Season, with an audience Q&A, and will delve into his career in a masterclass event hosted by Paul Whitington. Highlights in the programme include Being Maria, which explores Maria Schneider’s experience making Bertolucci’s controversial Last Tango in Paris with Maron Brando (played here by Matt Dillon); the thrilling and surprising The Successor, from Xavier Legrand, director of Custody; and the topical and deeply moving Souleymane’s Story. Keep an eye out too for the restored Agnes Varda shorts that will screen before several features throughout the festival.
