Multi-award winning French novelist Mathias Énard studied Persian and Arabic and spent long periods in the Middle East. He has lived in Barcelona for about fifteen years, interrupted in 2013 by a writing residency in Berlin. He won several awards for Zone, and in 2015 the Prix Goncourt. His recent book Compass, takes place during a single, sleepless night. The Guardian said the reader ‘emerges from this strangely powerful work as from a feverish dream.’

Spanish writer Javier Cercas delves with passion and honesty into the most ambiguous aspects of what makes us human in his new novel The Imposter. In The Blind Spot, An Essay on the Novel, he considers the most imaginative fiction of the last hundred years.
