2010 Film Guide : Persepolis by Marjane Satrapi and Vincent Paronnaud
The Film Guide has been released every year since 2003 by the Cultural Service of the French Embassy and the Irish Film Institute. It is also supported by the Arts Council. The Guide is aunique class resource for French teachers in Ireland.
« Persepolis » was chosen for this 2010 issue. The film is based on the story of Marjane (Marjane Satrapi created the graphic novel which inspired the movie), an eight-year-old girl living in Tehran with her family who dreams of becoming a prophet. Marjane likes punk music and Adidas sneakers, but the 1979 Revolution will shaken up everything. When war breaks out with Iraq, her parents decide to send her to Vienna where she experiences freedom, love and the difficulties of being a teenager...
This 2010 Film Guide is distributed to French teachers in Ireland during the FTA annual conference and is also available on request. A downloadable version is accessible on the Irish Film Institute Website. It will also be available for students (along with previous issues) at the Cultural Service and Alliance Française’s library in Dublin (1 Kildare Street, Dublin 2, 1st floor).
