Newpark Comprehensive School

Newpark Comprehensive School is an Irish public school with a French European bilingual section. It has been created in 1995 by the French Embassy’s Cultural service in Dublin. First a pilot project, the initiative evolves constantly. The pupils have the opportunity to be enrolled in intensive French courses as well as French culture and civilization courses, cooking lessons, all given in French by native teachers.

The European Section runs from the Junior cycle to the end of the Senior Cycle. All French pupils, Irish pupils with a French parent or relatives in France, or even pupils who are just enthusiastic about the French language and culture can apply for the European section. A lot of projects and initiatives such as “The French Speaking Countries week” are organized all around the year. A trip to Lyon is managed in 2nd year, thanks to an exchange program with Bellevue secondary school.

In 3rd year, the pupils in the European section take a compulsory French oral exam at the Junior Certificate. In 4th and 5th year, they are highly encouraged to take a French Language Certificate at the Alliance Française in Dublin, the DELF, certified by the French Ministry of Education and internationally recognized.

Newpark is located in Blackrock (Dublin 18). The campus includes a music center, a large number of sports grounds with a swimming pool, a weights room, a gymnasium and a theater (as theater is one of the extra-curriculum activities offered). Pupils can join those sports activities: rugby, basket, tennis, cricket, swimming, hockey and athletics.
Receiving all kind of pupils, from a large range of nationalities, levels and backgrounds, Newpark is a real community, with respect and tolerance as motto.
