The first joint scholastic competition of Franco-Irish Culinary junior chefs will take place on the 21st of March 2018 at Dublin Institute of Technology (DIT).

For the fourth year in a row, Goût de France / Good France has been a fun celebration of the vitality of French cuisine, forging ties between chefs around the world. On the 21st of March in 150 countries around the world, Goût de France / Good France, organized on the initiative of the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs, boosts the visibility of French cuisine on the world’s 5 continents.

We are glad to announce the first scolastic competition of France-Irish Culinary Chef which will also take place on the 21st of March 2018. It is organised by the French Embassy in Ireland, in partnership with the Dublin Institute of Technology (DIT), the National Dairy Council and the Centre national interprofessionnel de l’économie laitière.
The purpose of this competition is to give opportunity to students to showcase all skills and knowledge learnt within their institution.

WHAT ABOUT THIS COMPETITION

Between 3 and 5 teams, with one Irish student and one French student in each pairing, will participate in a cook off in Dublin at the DIT, on Cathal Brugha Street. They will be given a mystery basket of ingredients to cook from. All the teams will have to create a menu (three-course menu) and present it to the jury. The participation of the contest is free.

Different prizes will be offered:

  • The first prize is a week-long internship within the prestigious kitchen of the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Paris, France.
  • The joint runners up will win an internship at Chapter One, Michelin Star Restaurant, owned by chef Ross Lewis and at Michelin Star Restaurant Patrick Guilbaud.
  • The remaining contestants will receive a Certificate of Participation and a copy of the Gourmand Awarded Winning Best School Cookery Book in the World "All in the Food - 75 years of Cathal Brugha Street Celebrating Irish Culinary Excellence".

The top three teams from France will receive a weekend of travel to experience Ireland’s gastronomic culture whilst the Irish finalists will have the chance to visit one of France’s top gastronomic regions and explore that culture.

HOW TO APPLY?

In order to decide which students will go to the final in Dublin, two juries will decide which candidates will go on final: one jury in France and one Ireland will meet on the 13th of February 2018.

Interested in presenting your local champion? The selection of finalists will be based on a three-course menu (starter, main course, dessert) - Each person responsible for local selection has to send the files to the French Embassy in Ireland (academic@ambafrance-ie.org - see below).

Do you want to submit an application? It’s easy!
Send by email to academic@ambafrance-ie.org) pictures of the dishes and an explanation note stating :

  • the choice of dairy and its pairing with other ingredients,
  • its preparation,
  • a description of why the recipe would not work without dairy
  • a document presenting the student - a "selfie" made by the candidate him-herself.

The deadline for applications is set on the 09th February 2018. The selection will be based on excellence but also availability of the candidate to come in Dublin for the final.
The culinary student has to be full time education in a higher education institution in France and Ireland who are 18+ years at the beginning of the competition and wish to participate in the recipe contest.
