Culture Night: 'Painting Mirror': interactive projection Mapping - Selfies - AI

Presented by the French Embassy in collaboration with the National Gallery of Ireland for Culture Night 2023.

Take part in 'Painting Mirror' an interactive live digital art display that puts you in the frame of your own masterpiece on a grand scale as we project your portrait, cityscape or landscape onto the historical National Gallery of Ireland façade. For kids & adults alike, join in and get your picture taken on our Photo Booth & mirrored in real time on the walls in the style of Claude Monet, Paul Cézanne, Mainie Jellett or other masters

Be our muse and take part in this fun digital experience inspired by Irish, French & European chefs-d’oeuvre from the NGI collection & accompanied by Dj sets!

'Painting Mirror' uses AI technology and has been developed by Maxime Touroute, French digital artist and engineer, and Tom Veniat, PhD/Researcher in Artificial Intelligence.

TREC Expedition : the Schooner TARA in Galway for a series of free scientific events!

A major scientific expedition to understand biodiversity and ecosystems along Europe’s coastlines is underway. Over the course of two years, the expedition, called ‘TRaversing European Coastlines’, or TREC, is gathering information about how organisms interact with each other and their environment at a molecular level.
 
The TREC expedition takes place on land and at sea in parallel, stopping at over 120 sites, including Cork and Galway, in 22 European countries. At each stop, the European Molecular Biology Laboratory’s mobile labs sample on land while the schooner Tara, of the Tara Ocean Foundation, samples out at sea.
 
Alongside the scientific expedition, TREC is also organising public engagement events in Galway, encouraging the local community to find out more about marine science and molecular biology.
Everyone is welcome to discover any of the playful and interactive workshops, exhibitions and visits!

Tribute to French Artist Tomi Ungerer - A series of free events “In Memory of the Future”

Illustrators Ireland, in partnership with the French Embassy in Ireland & Alliance Française Dublin, are delighted to present a series of free events to celebrate the work and legacy of the legendary French illustrator Tomi Ungerer through talks, screenings and a collective exhibition.
  • Ongoing collective exhibition showcasing over 50 artists based in Ireland sharing their interpretations of Ungerer’s illustration work and responses to his wide-reaching influence - dlr LexIcon, Dún Laoghaire until 30 September
  • Talk with Irish artist Linda Curtin who was awarded the inaugural Tomi Ungerer Residency at the Centre Culturel Irlandais in Paris, and Anna Sailer, French curator of the Tomi Ungerer Museum in Strasbourg. The talk, moderated by illustrator Margaret-Anne Suggs, will be followed by a screening of Flix, RTÉ's animation series based on Tomi Ungerer’s 1997 children’s book - Wednesday 13th September 6pm at Alliance Française Dublin
  • Talk and Film Screening with Emer O’Sullivan, Professor for Literature and Cultural Studies at the Leuphana University Lüneburg (Germany), who will discuss Ungerer’s multilingual writings, followed by a screening of the animation film Moon Man based on Tomi Ungerer’s 1966 children’s book - Thursday 14th September 6pm at Alliance Française Dublin -  Watch trailer

Antonin Artaud in Ireland

September at Ranelagh Arts focuses on the acclaimed French writer, poet, dramatist, visual artist, essayist, actor and theatre director - Antonin Artaud. Widely recognized as a major figure of the European avant-garde. In particular, he had a profound influence on twentieth-century theatre through his conceptualization of the Theatre of Cruelty. Events will touch on all aspects of Artaud including an exhibition, music and film event, screenings and a literary walk with conversations around the Theatre of Cruelty and its relevance today.

French Circus in Cork

Pitch'd Circus & Street Arts Festival will open this year's edition with the show Entre Noeuds by French Compagnie Circographie, a juggling and dance company from Lille, formed in 2019 by choreographer Asaf Mor. The company's formation was inspired when Asaf led a masterclass at Pitch'd 2018, where he and the participants created an ensemble juggling act for the gala show.

Cie Circographie will also host a juggling and movement workshop at Dance Cork Firkin Crane as part of the Festival on Thursday 14th September.

Franco-Irish Exhibition at The Red Stables - Dublin

Call for applications – France Excellence Research Residency

The new call for applications for the mobility grant « France Excellence Research Residency » will open soon. This grant allows young and confirmed researchers from Irish universities to travel to France for up to a month.

Irish Doctors Choir to host world-class French group Ensemble Pulcinella

World-class French Baroque group Ensemble Pulcinella led by cellist Ophélie Gaillard will be visiting Ireland for the first time this autumn to feature in a performance of Handel’s Oratorio Samson in Waterford. The event will be hosted by Irish Doctors Choir to support the Waterford-based Solas Cancer Support Centre.
