[Digital Arts] Dublin - Culture Night 2024: ’Painting Mirror’ [fr]
Take part in this fun, interactive outdoor digital art installation presented by the French Embassy in association with the National Gallery of Ireland.
Experience a real-time AI digital exhibition that puts you in the frame of your own masterpiece on a grand scale as we project your portrait or landscape onto the historical Merrion Square façade. For kids & adults alike, join in and have your picture taken & mirrored on the walls in the style of some of the greatest women Impressionist artists like Berthe Morisot and Mary Cassatt, along with other masters like Monet, Cézanne and Mainie Jellett.

Snap your picture on our Photo Booth
Visitors on Culture Night can capture their portraits in a photo booth, with the images instantly stylised and projected onto the gallery walls. From 4pm to 8pm, an indoor space will also be available for you to enjoy this immersive experience.
National callout for landscape photographs
From anywhere in Ireland, France and beyond, member of the public can participate by sending a photograph of a landscape or cityscape, along with their name, email address, name of the place and county to culturenight@ngi.ie by 12 September (12pm).
A selection of shortlisted photographs will then be stylised onto the exterior of the National Gallery of Ireland at Merrion Square in the heart of Dublin on Friday, 20 September 2024. The original, unedited photographs will be projected onto the wall, followed by a display of the same photographs, mirrored in the style of much loved world renowned artists.

Painting Mirror is a new digital arts project that uses AI technology developed by Maxime Touroute, French digital artist and engineer, and Tom Veniat, PhD/Researcher in Artificial Intelligence.
Inspired by Irish, French and European chefs-d’oeuvre from the Gallery’s collection and accompanied by Dj sets, Painting Mirror will run from 4pm to 8pm indoor, and from 8pm to 11pm outdoor in the Merrion Square court. From 8pm, it will also be broadcasted live on Facebook, so participants can watch their pictures being displayed as they appear on the live projection.
The French connection with the National Gallery is further celebrated as visitors will have an opportunity to visit the NGI’s new temporary exhibition ’Women Impressionists’- (NB: limited n. of free tickets available to book in advance), along with the gallery’s 2023 acquisition of Paul Cézanne’s La Vie des Champs in the Modern European galleries.
‘Painting Mirror’ is part of the Digital Arts – Créativité & Innovation Tour presented by the French Embassy in Ireland in association with Irish cultural partners during September 2024. This initiative aims to strengthen France-Ireland collaborations in innovation, new technologies, and creative digital arts. The tour features public immersive experiences with live interactive mapping displays, along with skills development workshops in Dublin, Galway, Tuam, and Ballina.

This event is part of the European Culture Trail– a EUNIC Ireland (European Union National Institutes for Culture) initiative in cooperation with the European Commission Representation in Ireland.
Immerse yourself in the diversity of European languages and cultures on the European Culture Trail, where delights from different European countries await you.
For those visiting European Culture Trail events, you are invited to download the “European Culture Trail Treasure Hunt” passport here, and collect stamps at each stop. The passports with the most stamps at the end of the night will be entered into a raffle for the chance to win some wonderful prizes.
