Bastille Day Glasnevin Cemetary 2024 [fr]

A ceremony was held in Glasnevin Cemetary on the occasiobn of Bastille Day, July 14th 2024 to honour the sacrifice of Irish men and women who fought to defend France.

During the ceremony, ther was also a tribute to William Lombard Murphy, who was born in Dublin in 1876. A qualified surgeon, on the outbreak of war in 1914 he accepted a commission in the Royal Army Medical Corps, with the rank of captain. As a fluent speaker of French and German, he was later appointed liaison officer for the British, French, and German medical services. For his wartime service he was awarded the French Chevalier of the Legion d’Honneur and the Croix de Guerre.
