Meeting between President Emmanuel Macron and Taoiseach Simon Harris in Paris [fr]
The French President met Simon Harris, Taoiseach of Ireland, on Tuesday August 27 at the Elysée Palace.
On the eve of the start of the Paralympic Games, the President began by thanking Simon Harris for Ireland’s support in securing the Games and for his participation in the Sport for Sustainable Development summit held in Paris on July 25.
During the meeting, the Head of State and the Taoiseach also discussed international issues, in particular the situation in the Middle East. They reiterated the need for an immediate ceasefire, essential for the protection of civilians in Gaza, the release of all hostages, the delivery of humanitarian aid to the population and de-escalation in the region. The two leaders also reaffirmed their determination to support Ukraine for as long as necessary, to counter Russia’s war of aggression and preserve the security of the European continent.
The President of the Republic and the Taoiseach discussed European issues and the prospects for relations between the European Union and the United Kingdom. They reaffirmed their desire to deepen the bilateral relationship between France and Ireland. Lastly, they discussed Ireland’s prospects and priorities for the Irish presidency of the European Union in the second half of 2026.
