Ploughing our way to the Championship
Last Tuesday, a delegation from the French Embassy visited the National Ploughing Championship to support French companies attending the event.
Both France and Ireland are famous for their agricultural traditions. While France hosts the Salon de l’Agriculture as well as a multitude of regional fairs, Ireland just witnessed the huge interest of Irish and European farmers for the National Ploughing Championship.
For this occasion, the French Ambassador to Ireland Mr Jean-Pierre Thebault joined the event to support French companies attending the Championship. Accompanied by a delegation from the Ubifrance commercial bureau, the French delegation visited the stands of car manufacturer Renault, Total, agricultural machinery Kuhn as well as eco-friendly fertilizer production company Sobac.
Among the companies attending were also cattle organisations promoting French beef breeds. From Salers to Limousine, passing by Charolaise and Parthenaise, the Championship was a display of France’s agricultural excellency.
While the ploughing competition went on, Mr Thebault congratulated the two Irish winners of the World Ploughing Contest organized in Bordeaux a fortnight before. Mr Eamon Tracey and Mr John Whelan were among several ploughing champions who took part in the World Ploughing Contest. With several thousand attending the National Ploughing Championship this year, it is not long until French contestants join the Championship !
